'Victory Over the Sun' (Black Circle)

A while ago I tracked the incidence of the black square as it appeared in culture from the 17th century to the present day in my series Black Square with Malevich's paintings as the central axis.
The first of his black squares appeared as part of the stage design for the opera 'Victory over the Sun' (1913). The plot concerns a group of protagonists who want to destroy reason, by disposing of time and capturing the Sun.).
'Black Square', the first of four versions of this painting, debuted in 1915.
'Black Circle' was painted the same year.
As wildfires proliferate during this hottest of years and on yet another scorching day, and as today's portentous feeling eclipse of the sun approaches there was but one image I could make to ‘square the circle’ as it were.
The composition replicates that of Malevich’s ‘Black Circle’ placing the circle of centre.
For this piece I used wildfire charcoal I collected from a wildfire in North Yorkshire last year.
