Bellever Forest, Dartmoor

Only 1 available

Painted on location during a four day plein aire painting course I was leading on Dartmoor.

We had seriously challenging conditions: squally 40mph wind gusts, rain coming from every direction then periods of calm and sunshine followed by very limited visibility and everything in between throughout the course but my students were keen and resilient and we got some great work done. This is the only oil sketch completed there (on the 5th of June).

They say bad weather makes for good paintings and on this one I reached for a little Edward Seago in the treatment of the sky.

Oil on panel, 45 × 30cm, 2026.
